McPherson Wetlands: The McPherson Valley Wetlands is the focus of the first story. The wetlands were drained during the early 20th century for farming. Now, Sunflower Journeys sees how local citizens are working with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks to bring the wetlands back to their natural state. Tallgrass Alliance: The second story looks at the Tallgrass Legacy Alliance, a group formed by an unusual union of ranchers and environmentalists. Sunflower Journeys talks to members of the alliance and learns about the passion they share to preserve the tallgrass prairie of the Flint Hills. Ogallala Aquifer: The final story explores the on-going issue of water in western Kansas by focusing on the Ogallala Aquifer. Sunflower Journeys looks at proposed methods of preserving the aquifer and meets one farmer who says his profitability is better off without irrigation.
